Identify this Bird. And another drawer got made.

Just before pulling into the cabin I saw this bird in the road.  I stopped the truck, and got out.  I figured that would scare him off.  Nope. It stood its ground and fluffed up like it was going to give me the business.  So I shut off the truck and went and got some welding gloves.  I was not going to let this bird commit suicide by hanging out in the road.

It let me pick it up without much of a fight and it did not appear to be injured.  It could flap its wings and move around just fine.  It actually seemed to like hanging out on my hand and posed real nice for pictures.  I am curious if anyone knows what kind of bird this is.

I set it off on the side of the road and went about my business.  I went back an hour later and it was gone so I hope mamma came and found it or it rested up enough to fly off.  It was a pretty neat experience anyways.

Then I started building the pull out cabinet.  I got the bottom done and mounted and the top glued up.  I just need to finish the frame tomorrow.

Fire, Wildlife and Doors

The wife came home talking about a big fire that might make her have to work late, I guess without the constant media contact here.  News moves a little slower.  There is a rather large wildfire about 35-40 miles away.  We could see the smoke on the drive to work on the cabin.

I saw my second black bear, he is hard to spot in the middle of the road, i snapped these while driving.  Sort of hard to zoom in while driving.

I also managed to hang two of the interior doors tonight.  I started with the openings I framed.  They open and close, they are not perfect but I think I did alright.

2nd Primer Coat Finished

Tomorrow, we are headed into Ashland to get the finish paint.  And trim paint.  Hopefully ordering trim next week as well as spraying the house on Sunday or Monday.  Things are rapidly coming together.  Pretty soon I am going to be cutting and painting Moldings, and bathroom trim as well as installing the cabinet bases, building shelves and sink basins.  I am really looking forward to doing something that requires thinking instead of just work.

I saw this lady on the way to work on the house.  Oh and between the wife and I we painted the whole house today.  I had a half day so I put in about 7 hours and she helped with 2 of her own

Spotted a Bald Eagle Yesterday

I saw this guy fly out of the woods on the way to working on the cabin.  I stopped in the middle of the road, hauled out the picture maker and snapped some photos.  The photos on the left are wide shots and then I digitally zoomed in to make it easier to find the eagle.

The Northland is waking up from a long winter slumber.  Deer are everywhere.  Birds, frogs, racoons, saw a porcupine yesterday too.  Dog thought he wanted to try that out.  I told him no.
