Started on the woodshed this weekend.

We kept busy this weekend despite having some time for some serious recreation.  The Emergency Pig Out BBQ in Iron River, Fishing with Frank, and getting tough work done around the homestead.

We cleared a bunch of trees and scrub, picked up some lumber and started building a woodshed.  Should be done sometime this week.  There is also some more canning in the near future thanks to the produce fairy.

Hey we moved.

So much has happened in the past couple days that I have not really had time to type out an update.

We moved.  If you would like my new address send me a facebook message.  I will seriously correspond with anyone who enjoys writing letters.  Send me some postal mail and I will surely send something back.

The fiber is installed and I am loving it.  Very nice guy came to do the install it took a few hours but when he left I have a phone that works, msg me for the number, and blazing fast internet.

As a side effect of moving everything is in a total state of disaster.  The shed was full of piles of stuff the house was full of piles of stuff.  The wife attacked the house and I did the shed.  I got some lumber and built a ramp as well as a bunch of shelves.  The ramp is really nice to walk up and down and that way I can get the lawnmower in there eventually.

I need the space for the tools in the shed so I can make more storage for inside the house.  Sort of an evil catch 22.  But each day I make some more progress.  That feels good and is important.  Have a wonderful evening folks.  I am totally exhausted.

Cabinets almost done, curtains, and safety devices.

Putting a bunch of the finishing touches on now.  Finished up the plumbing with the foot pump sink.  I still need to make a pedal to make it look nicer.

Started installing the CO/Smoke detectors. Found out we do have a light over the sink.  I thought it was a really odd place for a smoke detector and now I know it is supposed to be a light.

Cabinets are done but I am waiting for two more pieces of hardware.  To make the sponge holder pocket things.  They come next week sometime.

All the curtain rods are up except for one.  They look pretty nice.  Internet installed on Monday.  Can’t wait for the first blog post from the cabin.

I can build shelves.

Today was another busy day.  I made the drawer fronts and routed them.  I then made adjustments to the drawers.  I was not happy with how they were sliding.  I planed some of the drawers with my grandpa’s hand plane.  I just got it super sharp this morning.

The wife stained all the door and drawer fronts and painted a few extra trim pieces.  While I built my first two sets of fine looking shelves.   Enjoy a photo montage.

Shaving poles, New Tools, and Fancy Drawers.

Busy day at the homestead.  I finished up the pull out cabinet and mounted the drawer front on it.  It turned out pretty nice for being made out of plywood.  I am glad that I saved this one for last, since my drawer making skills have gotten much better.  The joints are tighter and the drawer was exactly the right size.

Next I cut down 8 aspen saplings for the wife to shave down for curtain rods.  While she worked on that I set up the new router table and router.  Lots of parts but man is that thing sweet.  Check out this simple but elegant drawer front prototype.

Test drawer front.

Test drawer front.

Tomorrow is going to be another busy one too with lots more progress.

Identify this Bird. And another drawer got made.

Just before pulling into the cabin I saw this bird in the road.  I stopped the truck, and got out.  I figured that would scare him off.  Nope. It stood its ground and fluffed up like it was going to give me the business.  So I shut off the truck and went and got some welding gloves.  I was not going to let this bird commit suicide by hanging out in the road.

It let me pick it up without much of a fight and it did not appear to be injured.  It could flap its wings and move around just fine.  It actually seemed to like hanging out on my hand and posed real nice for pictures.  I am curious if anyone knows what kind of bird this is.

I set it off on the side of the road and went about my business.  I went back an hour later and it was gone so I hope mamma came and found it or it rested up enough to fly off.  It was a pretty neat experience anyways.

Then I started building the pull out cabinet.  I got the bottom done and mounted and the top glued up.  I just need to finish the frame tomorrow.
